Rock cycle

Rock cycle

This diagram illustrates the rock cycle that begins with volcanic activity. Lava or magma is brought to the surface and cooled, becoming igneous rock such as basalt. 50% of blue sapphires are found in basalt. Over time, the erosion of igneous rocks and layers accumulating above generates pressure forming sedimentary rock such as limestone, where fossils are most commonly found.
